The Story: An interview with dating industry expert, Chris Manak
For many boys becoming men and men becoming confused, the dating scene still remains something of a mystery. Many men go out to clubs, with the hopes of meeting women, but are unsure of how to introduce themselves, how to make conversation, to flirt, to charm a woman, and perhaps more importantly, how to overcome obstacles, and maintain a positive state in the face of rejection. Even men who, to their friends, seem confident, attractive, and successful, may still be confronted with an array of problems in this area of their lives.
For these reasons, it’s becoming more and more common for men to seek the advice of a professional, a dating coach who can give them advice on how to express themselves authentically, how to be confident, and how to be resilient when challenges present themselves.
In this episode, Kurt interviews Chris Manak, life coach, motivator, personal development expert and dating coach. Chris sees the act of meeting people as a kind of therapy, where his clients’ insecurities are quickly brought to light and can be addressed. Every concept of “I’m not good enough” and every spectre of your ex-girlfriend can immediately be exposed, and so begins the path to healing. We discussed how Chris’s humble beginnings, learning slowly how to meet women, how his friends eventually wanted to learn from him, and the dark side of the game, where people can get lost, running from their past. We also discussed the stigma surrounding personal development, and how that might change in the future.
