Thailand mystical space adventure: Aaron returns – Episode 149

The Story: Aaron goes to Thailand and doesn’t recognise himself

When you start a new job after a period of inactivity, maybe it will seem nothing more than a daily grind. If you’re lucky, you might get a few months of honeymoon period in which you’re still learning things and the job is exciting. If you’re really lucky, you might stay in a 5 star hotel in Thailand, and find yourself full of energy, amazed at the great work for which you’re preparing. That’s the position Mr. Battle found himself in.

In this episode, Aaron explains his journey to Thailand with a new company, telling us the vague details of their plan to create a new internet with security, privacy and community. Aaron also tells us about how he was so vitalised by the experience that, for the first week, he only needed three hours of sleep a night, and about an unusual dissociative episode, being unable to recognise himself in the mirror for a moment, thanking his body for being a vessel for his soul. Then Kurt recounts a recent occurrence in which he almost had an out-of-body experience, and recalls a story from Robert Monroe’s “Journeys Out of the Body”.

Everything is information: Andrarchy – Episode 145

The Story: The evolution of everything: The philosophy of crowdism

If you’re a writer and you sit down to write a story, essay or book, as the pieces start to come together you might draw on years of experience and knowledge. The experience of depression you had when you were in college, the periods of low functionality caused by it, and the steps you took to eventually drag yourself out of it. Then, the years of reflecting on those times, and everything you read about it, and your thoughts as you attempted to process the ideas of others as they relate to what you went through.

In this episode, Kurt interviews Andrew Levine (a.k.a. andrarchy) about how the process of his life resulted in the process of writing a book, tentatively titled “The Evolution of Everything: The Philosophy of Crowdism”. Andrew explains how his epihany that “Enlightenment means freedom from genes and memes” lead him down a rabbithole, making new discoveries, until he eventually discarded the idea, and how it relates to the idea that everything is information.

The Story:

Everybody, at some point in their life, has a peak experience. It might be described as a mystical, or religious experience, being touched by the hand of God, having a spiritual awakening, or perhaps just a moment of clarity. It can come in the form of intense awe, happiness, well-being, acceptance or tranquility. Abraham Maslow coined the term “peak experience”, and originally thought they were only experienced by self-actualised people, but with further research he realised that they were available to everyone – it was just that certain types of people felt them more intensely and more frequently.

What do peak experiences mean? Are they blessings from God, or just a glitch in our brains? Can they reveal greater truths about life and the universe? Who knows, but I ask those questions and more in the next spine-tingling, chakra-awakening, spirit-rattling episode of … The Paradise Paradox!
